You're not a driver. You're just going the same way.
Nobody on PoolMate drives for a living. Car owners here are people already driving from A to B — they simply pick up co-travellers along the way. It's cost-sharing between colleagues and neighbours, and nobody earns a profit.
- No detours, no duty — you drive your own route, on your own schedule
- Co-travellers share costs; this is not a commercial service
- Ride with the same verified regulars from your tech park or community
- You pick who you ride with — same gender only, or anyone

How much will a ride cost?
A fraction of what you'd otherwise spend. PoolMate suggests a fair per-seat share from the actual distance — fuel and tolls split between everyone in the car. Owners can adjust it up to 20% either way, and you can bid within 10% of what they ask. No surge pricing, ever. PoolMate takes a flat ₹5 per seat as a platform fee (you start with ₹100 in credits), and 0% commission on what you share with your co-travellers.
How will you verify people?
Every member will complete verification before their first ride — government ID, selfie match, and where possible, company email verification for IT-park employees and community verification for gated societies. No anonymous profiles.
What about women's safety?
Safety is designed in, not bolted on. Every member sets a “Ride with” preference — same gender only or anyone — and we only ever match you within it. That works for owners and passengers alike, alongside verified-only profiles, live trip sharing, and an in-app SOS. Tell us your preference on the waitlist and we'll honour it from your very first ride.
Is carpooling even legal in India?
Sharing travel costs is not the same as running a commercial service — no one earns a profit, costs are simply split. We cap contributions at cost-sharing levels and follow state transport guidelines as they evolve.
When do you launch?
We go live community-by-community in Bangalore and Hyderabad first — IT parks and large residential communities with the most waitlist signups open earliest. Joining the waitlist (and referring the people you travel with) directly speeds up your area.
